Like everyone has said their will never be a draft...the congress people who voted for it would be outed if it ever passed. The big talk that is fueling this rumor is that they want to expand the size of the army and marines...that does not mean drafting people to make it bigger, but create new birgades and set higher recruiting goals to fill the quota of the needed soldiers.

and on a side note to "I Hate Liberals" you are a complete idiot, just because the deomcrates won control in the last election does not mean that they are in control yet. It has been a republican ultra conservative congress that has been backing Bush. So you have no idea what you are talking about saying that if the deomocrates wanted out of Iraq they would be out by now..they arent in power, and they are trying to do what is best for everyone involved, mostly our troops. They have to find the best way to pull out....

I doubt the draft will be re-initiated unless we end up going to war with a state entity like North Korea, and even then it may not pass muster.

There have been attempts to re-instate the draft, mainly by Democrats as a fishing expedition to cause more consternation with the Bush administration. So much of our national politics today is absorbed with Republicans and Democrats acting like little children instead of adults who are responsible for this country's safety, and that of it's citizenry.

Speaking personally, I would not want to serve in a draftee army if at all possible. Draftees have served very honorably in the past, some even being awarded the Medal of Honor, but a military works best when it is all volunteer. The only other option is a dragooned army of soldiers petrified of their controllers, and that is NOT the American way. This isn't some banana republic ultra left or right wing military junta force where if you even look funny at your leader you get a bullet in the face and a shallow grave, if one at all, in some nameless jungle.

In short, it's probably not worth your time to worry. If it happens, it happens. But it likely won't.

NO it is NOT true.

In 2003 Reps Charles Rangel D-NY, James McDermott D-WA, John Conyers D-MI, John Lewis D-GA, Pete Stark D-CA, and Neil Abercrombie D-HI introduced a bill (HR 163) in the house to reinstate the draft. It was defeated by a vote of 402-2.

Rep Rangel then floated the idea of another bill immediately following the November 2006 election. That was snuffed by the Democrat Party Leadership.

Respectfully, but judging by your mental skills, you wouldn't pass the physical.

Nothing is set in stone. Nobody knows for certain. But in my opinion here goes:
I do think they are getting prepared - not to start the draft right away but just in case of another war starts up somewhere else they more than likely will have to. For now i believe everything is cool, but if push comes to shove and war breaks out in North Korea or the Iraq war spreads into Iran i dont see how they could handle another war without starting the draft up.

From what I understand this is the initiative on ONE democrat who has tried this in the past and failed. why do you think you are going to die if you get drafted? You do know that Iraq is not the only game in town. There are missions all over the world that you can support. If you think America is not worth fighting for then get the hell out and enjoy the taxes in Canada.

Please stop assuming that this is a Conservative brought up issue.

Do some research (modern) under the draft and you'll see this is a political issue that is being proposed by Senator Wrangell, A DEMOCRAT.

Don't believe this is going to happen, it is all political ploy....

I would otherwise agree as well as the majority of Americans in saying that they DO NOT want a draft. If a draft passed in Congress, it'd be safe to assume that those congressman would be ousted in the next election go around.

It is purley rumor right now. They talked of this same thing when 911 happened. Even before then, at war time people start throwing the word "draft" everywhere.

It will always be rumors about it because they are ABLE to do it. Its a real possibilty but not to probable right now. You will KNOW when they start it back up, if they ever do.

I do not believe so.
If you do not want the draft to come back, vote republican. The fighting records of Bush and the Dick should be a positive sign that they are afraid of war too, well, afraid, if they are forced to or ctheir children are forced to fight.

The two fighting age daughters of george and the lesbian daughter of Dick is your insurance that the draft is not coming back. That's your truth.

Just because you go to war doesn't mean you will get shot and die, the worse thing that could happen is you loose an arm or leg and come back and try tolive as a disabled Vet. It may not be your time to go and you miracluosly make it thru the war.

It is a political scare tactic. If check military recruitment figures you will see that the military is recruiting enough people. The military does not want to deal with a draft, only a few self serving politicians bring it up.
