If you live in a cooler/colder part of the country, don't wash your dog in the winter unless he REALLY needs it. If he is stinky or rolls in something, go ahead but if he's just smelling a little "doggy" don't wash him. Washing a dog removes the natural oils on his skin; it takes a couple of weeks for the oil to build back up. When you run artificial heat in the winter, it produces a very dry heat, even if you have a radiator system or use a humidifier. Put a freshly washed dog into dry heat and he will be very itchy and possibly even get dandruff.

I bathe mine in the bathtub in the winter with warm water about once a month. I towel dry her. Her coat seems to soak up a lot of water for being short hair so I'm careful about howlong I wait before letting her outside.

During the summer we go boating every weekend and my dogs play in the river for two solid days. Because of how the river water smells they get baths every Sunday night. As long as you are careful choosing your shampoo (oatmeal, or sensitive skin formulas) it won't harm your dog to bathe him once a week if need be.

If he needs a bath than give him one. I don't bathe my dogs much in winter unless they get dirty or are shedding badly. As long as you get them dried off and keep them in a warm area while drying you shouldn't have a problem.

I would not bathe any dog more than once a month anytime. If he spends a lot of time outdoors, just make sure he is completely dry (including his undercoat) before letting him outside. Lots of brushing and baby wipes will do
