Merlot is a red wine which should be served room temp.White wine should be chilled. A few hours in the fridge will do it.
I had Yellow Tail wine and didn't like it, but to each his own!

I used to work in a restaurant years ago and as far as I know, White wines were always chilled and red wines kept in room temperature on a rack.

whites are best served chilled. merlot - room temp.
personally though, i prefer to stick my reds in the fridge for about 5-10 minutes so that they're just a bit cold to the touch when serving.

whites are chilled, reds generally are not (tho' my mother in law chills the heck outta EVERY wine....)
Yellow tail Chardonay is pretty nice ; chill that!
In theory, there is an optimal temp for every wine, so you can experiment iwth being in the fridge a second or so.... or near the heater...lol. they actually make these little wine bottle bracelets that wrap around the bottle to tell you what temp they are currently at.

Merlot isn't supposed to be chilled, pinot grigio is to be chilled. Make sure you open the red and let it breath a few minutes before serving.

Enjoy it however you and your guests like it.
Whites are best chilled.
The old "serve at room temperature" for reds needs clarification....
If room temperature is below 75 degrees, fine. If you live in a hotter climate, like large portions of the world outside central Europe, slightly chilling reds will deliver the best taste and drinkability, particularly for light and fruity reds.
