While not usually a problem with adults, this can be an issue with small children who may not always wash their hands and frequently put things in their mouth. Children who play in uncovered sandboxes are at a real risk. Parasite infections from pets like roundworms can cause severe neurological, eye and organ problems.
This is why vets are so insistent on annual fecal exams to check for parasites and why they recommend frequent deworming; it's not to get your money it is to protect the health of your pet and children.

Humans can get some parasites from pets. Always wash your hands after handling your pet. Make sure your pet is vaccinated and medicated for parasites regularly and under vet's instructions. If you suspect that you have contracted a parasite, then go to a doctor who will check you blood and monitor your condition. Usually you won't be treated until symptoms actually appear. I guess the treatment is hard on the system. Why subject you to that unless actually needed.

Actually if the dog got feces on his fur, you can get the eggs into your system. People do sometimes get some types of worms, and if you find yourself ill a lot, you need to see a doctor.

Mosquitoes transmit heartworm, not pets. Humans are unnatural hosts for heartworm- therefore cases of infection are rare. Many heartworm preventative medicines for pets do eliminate other parasites such as hookworms, whipworms and roundworms, which are more commonly seen in humans.

uhmmm hard to do... but if you get worms you can either go to the doctor or just let it live in you, enjoy the weight loss and when it passes through your system and starts coming out your behind during a bowel movement make sure to grab hold and pull the entire thing out - better yet- have someone else do it. you don't want to just get half of it.
