Dear Laura.
(Exodus 20:13) Thou shalt not kill [MURDER].
In the Hebrew Language of the Old Testament there are 5 Words translated into English that are translated KILL
This PARTICULAR word here means "The Taking Of INNOCENT LIFE!
Correctly translated, "you shall not take innocent life!"
Murders were Commanded to be KILLED under God's Law, so were they that Worshipped Other GODS, or Witches for a fact!
The confusion often comes WHEN OUR AMERICAN NEWS MEDIA takes out of Context the Necessity to Kill!
Had ADOLF HITLER had his way, we would all be Speaking GERMAN, and been under the NAZI RULE! Perhaps you can study WW 2 history?
Thanks, RR

Technically, yes it is. One of the Ten Commandments is 'Thou shalt not kill'. But, like many things, they find ways to explain it away.
Oh, and yes, there are many Christian soldiers. At least in the US.
Edit: See! I told you the Christians would explain away not following their own biblical laws!
And to the person who said the Bible states "Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth", it does say that, but that was actually adopted from the Babylonians during the Jewish exile in Babylon. So if you follow that, technically you're following a pagan law. And I think that the Ten Commandments outweigh a 'pagan' law.

I am Christian and it says in the Bible and ear for and ear and a tooth for a tooth which means that if you kill my brother that gives me the right to kill your brother. But in the new testament it says that you are to do what is right through your government, leaders, and your peers. In otherwords what I'm trying to say is that there are many christian soliders and they don't nessacarily like killing the other people but the lord said that you are to protect your brothers and sisters. Fighting in Iraq is protecting us, their brothers and sisters in America and in Christ.
There is a story that may help.
There was a solider who came back from the war to finish college and he had a professor who was an athist and a man who was very opposed to the war and he said that he would stand in front of the class and said "strike me down "OH LORD" if you strike me down i will forever believe in you" they waited for 5 minutes, 10 minutes, nothing, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 40 minutes. then the soldier got out of his seat and cold ****** the professor and the professor asked why he did that.
The soldier replyed "God is busy protecting all of his soliders in Iraq, he sent me to do his biding for him". Hope this inspires you and answers your question.

Majority of soldiers in the Western Armies--LATIN America--and some in Asian countries are Christians .They are there to defend the sovereignty and territory of their homeland against foreign aggression. That is not against any religion or its beliefs--its one's duty to do so

They should sing up for a different MOS (Military Occupational Specialty...aka.. your job) then. You can however become a conscientious objector, which means you have religious objections to killing people...even so, you can't be in a combat MOS unless you are a chaplain or chaplains assistant, that sort of job.

not really. yes, there is some commandment to not kill, but there are more about obeying god. and we cannot know the divine intent so if called upon then war must be waged. i don't think many qualify however. if there were a lot then there would be more dead lying around. the world is seething in its sickness.

It's ok for Christians to kill but not ok for Muslims to kill, that sounds stupid doesn't it. We're all wrong......Christians, Islam, Jews, whatever.........we're all wrong until the true Messiah comes and teaches us. Jesus wasn't the Messiah, Christians just needed a human God to idolize cause we've all fallen short of God's sight.

In a just war of defense against an unjust aggressor, it would certainly be OK for a Christian to kill.

Yes that troubles me too. When the ten commandments say "thou shall not kill" It doesn't get any clearer than that.
