Hi there, Unless the engine has been overheated and it is an overhead cam engine there is no need to have the head skimmed if you check it the way its shown in the relevant haynes manual with a straight edge and feeler gauges and its withing the manufacturers tolerances you should be ok, you can have it pressure tested if you wish, as for the price your looking at about £20-£30 for the head set then dependin upon labour rate it could be up to £250 i personally wouldnt charge more than that but phone around and see what the garages in your area charge

I wouldn't bother with it, the answer is - simply look for a better one, i've had 2 mondeo's both under £600 with no faults whatsoever, you can get a good P-R reg mark 2 mondeo for £400-£600, (I also had a vauxhall cavalier which had head gasket problems - I ended up replacing it twice, skimmed the cylinder head the first time, radiator and water pump the second time (as well as the head gaskets) - never again! (Ken E - well said, I scrapped the cavalier for some of those reasons!) - I drove it and hadn't realised the gasket had gone)

I'd expect around £250-£300 including skimming. As someone else said might as well change the belt at the same time.
Fairly straightforward a head on a fiesta so shouldnt be too expensive.

If you can get away with just changing the gasket then not too much if you can do the work yourself, (maybe 20 to 30 pounds for a top end gasket set), but if you have to have the head skimmed it's gonna be expensive.

Nick the head will need to be skimmed include that in your costs .If a timing belt is used it has to be changed (carefull )Ifyou remove the head yourself and replace you can save a lot of money.Agood torque wrench will help check in the manual for settings . Make sure you line up timing marks .Take the head to a well known machine shop. Good luck Merry Xmas .

Depending where you take it, most shops will charge from 600 to 800 USD. This is assuming the head isn't shot and can be used again. If you do this at least have them surface the head, that is a process where they machine the mating surface flat, this is a very inexpensive thing to do, 20 to 30 $, Good luck

i own a repair shop, and to change it,and have the head checked to make sure it doesn't have any warp-age in it,,should cost around 400 for everything,,i always have the checked ,and trued up,,other wise your wasting time with just replacing the head gasket on it,,it will blow another one ,and that's a lot more expense i always do the job once, and do it right,,but that's a good price on doing this job,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.

You may even be better throwing another engine in like one from a scrap car or accident damaged.
Look in your local paper from a fiesta or escort with same size engine then all you ned to do is hire a engine hoist and you could have it done in a day and before you replace engine check the clutch
