LOL, I know this is going to be a controversail subject around here.....so I thought it would be fun

What do you think? I want to give my baby my last name. I don't want to marry the father and even if I did I'm not changing my name. It doesn't make any sense to me to have my kids have a different last name then me. We do plan to be together so one of us will have to sacrifice, but I don't see why it should automatically be me because of some lame tradition. I thought about doing the hypen thing, but thats just not practical. Plus, he has two kids already with his last name, so its balanced. Whats the big deal? I'm bearing them, no matter what happens there staying with me, so how does it make sense to give them his last name?

This should be good.....

and oh by the way if you can't tell, I'm ultra liberal.

Your baby should have your last name. You are giving birth to the human. You have to go through to pregnacy. YOUR last name should be on the baby.

Instead of looking at it as a sacrifice on your part, you could look at it as a gift to the baby's father to give the child his name. The tradition of giving the child it's father's name helps cement the bond between the father and child - something that is important since the father doesn't get the actual physical bond, from carrying the child. What is "lame" about that?

I'd do the hypen. If your last name is smith and the dads last name is Johnson then just name the baby for example: Michael Johnson-Smith and the baby can go as Michael Smith, but still have his dads name also.

or, give the child his fathers last name as his middle name.

It's all up to you, but why would you have kids with this guy if you didn't want to marry him? How does the father feel about you not wanting the baby has his last name?

i see nothing wrong with giving the baby your last name since you are not married to the father. i made the mistake of giving my first child her fathers name, he took off , never got married and i ended up changing her name before she went to school . so im all for your last name

you can name your baby with your last name, like for example;

John Smith Clark.

Smith being your name and Clark being the fathers name.

It is tradition that the child always gets the last name of the father. Break it and your child will blame you if he's upset about it!

If you are not married, the baby should have you last name. I dont believe that the father deserved that privledge unless he marries the mother.

It's up to you. If you're not going to marry the father, I think that you should use your own name. If you have one particular idea, go for it! Don't let me influence you! Congratulations and good luck!
