My dog has a past with not eating her food, now..I brought her to get groomed and she had her teeth brushed too. Since then, she has not eaten her food NOR any treats! I have tried putting sauces over it, wetting the food and feeding out of my hand. She won't touch it. She is drinking her water though. What is wrong? Is it possible the groomers used a toothpaste she could be allergic to? Or..could they have beena little too rough with her teeth? she is a 10 month old healthy shepherd. Please help!!

It is a german shepherd. She has been to the groomers before and never had a problem. Also, I only put her food down when it is time to eat. She never has access to it all day unless I have to leave for a while. My concern is that she does this alot! Couple days a month almost where she doesn't eat her food.

If the dog is medically OK, forget about the chicken and sauces and all the other nonsense and answer the following questions. Does your dog have access to her food all day long? How mucg does she usually eat? If you answered yes to the first question, PICK UP THE FOOD now. Put it down once a day and give her 15 minutes to eat, if she does, fine, if not, pick it up and do not offer her anything till the next day when she gets the same thing. There is no dog, that given food has EVER starved to death. She will eat when she is hungry enough. And by the way, what kind of a dog is that, that gets traumatized by a trip to the groomers? How did she end up like this? Is it genetic or her environment?

From personal experience I take my older dog to the groomers and even when she's not @ the groomers she gets into this fit to where she eats every couple of days or every other day or whatnot, but then she wants to eat my food @ dinner or breakfast and not hers. I feed my dogs twice a day (morning @ evening) since the days here are super short. My poodle-mix does not eat breakfast all the time and the food just sits there all day and no one touches it (still there now), and then dinner rolls around and she somtimes doesn't eat it (but occasionally she eat bits of my other dogs food). The following day she won't eat breakfast but she'll eat dinner. I don't know I just feed her normally and she eats when she desires to eat. I think the new habbit is forming with my puppy too (she's 6 months but she's also eating small bones her adult teeth are all in). They're both medically healthy and I don't worry because that's their eating style or whanot. I won't force food on her or worry just keep them eating in the same style and food their accustom too. I hope I help. Good Luck.

Getting groomed can be rough on a puppy, go to your vet to make sure nothing is really wrong. She could have caught a virus at the groomer from another dog, she could just be upset, there are lots of things. The fact she is drinking is good. Keep offering her food, try a piece of chicken or beef, no fat or skin. when my labs wouldnt eat because they had a cold and had trouble smelling, I used liversausage.

Does she have a cold? Some pups won't eat if they can't smell.
