I don't want to take antibiotics every time I have a UTI, because they cause yeast infections...a painful double whammy. How can I treat & prevent UTI's in the future? I do know how to wipe myself after I "go"--so that's not the problem. How can I resort to condom use everytime with my husband? Not practical for me.

The clinical evidence is that drinking cranberry juice does not treat UTI's if you already have one. It may protect against getting future UTI's but you have to drink over 3 glasses a day. Cranberry tablets might be worth a try as well as making sure you're drinking adequate fluids and continuing with the hygiene regime you mentioned. Presumably if you're getting frequent and recurrent UTI's your dr has checked for a potential underlying cause and none exists. If not then I would suggest this as a first step.

Though some case of UTI have been cleared with drinking more water and cranberry juice, don't get your hopes up. The real issue is whether it was a UTI or another minor infection.

The body does have the ability to fight infections with the proper nutrients it requires. Though the length of time varies drastically. Many times a person with a UTI attempts to clear with drinking water and CB juice only hide the symptoms since water and CB juice help lubricate the urinary tract and assist with an easier flow of urine, thus reducing the pain.

I suggest you suck it up with the antibiotics and be sure your cure the UTI. It's better to know than to guess.

No, it won't cure it. Maybe if it's a mild case you can take the homeopathy route. But cranberry juice only helps to maintain it when it's healthy. To get rid of the pain that goes with it, use a uti medicine like uristat but that'll only treat the symptoms, it won't cure it. If the uti lasts more than 3 days, save yourself a lot of pain and just go to the doctors. It'll take a half hour out of your life but will save you hours of pain and discomfort.
