THE average frozen turkey will have been stored in a deep freeze for about two years by the time you buy it. But some may have been lurking around perfectly legally for five years. There is no "best before" limit for frozen turkeys. Surprisingly, studies have shown that the flavor and quality is unlikely to deteriorate much over the five years. But eating something that old is enough to put most people off.

I recommend no longer than a year, and that is only if it is very well wrapped.

If its vacuum sealed, I would think you can keep it for decades. But really, don't you have an occasion to use that turkey with a year? If not, donate it to a soup kitchen.

For as long as you can maintain electricity to the freezer.
