Last night I went out to play pool at the Ale House restaurant and there was only one cube chalk to smooth out your pool stick tip. Well I saw this man keeping it on his pool table and I went over nicely and asked if I can use it. You know what he said, "Go get your own." So Calmly I said, "This is the only one, and I'm going to need it too, so can we share it please."
The rude bastard took it from me, stuck it in his pocket and walked away. One of my friends said to me, "He doesn't know God, that's why he's like that." So the rest of my game sucked without the chalk! What would you have done?

Of the previous answers, I think that bestbet77 has the right idea. Often the bartender will have a box of chalk cubes either behind the bar or in a storage room. I've encountered this problem before with there being only one chalk cube for the whole bar, and it's usually a crappy little fleck of chalk that's been bored down to the very bottom because nobody knows how to properly chalk their tip. I don't know how often you play at bars, but you might want to consider getting a piece of your own chalk to put on your keychain. I keep a scuffing/shaping tool on my keychain for house cues and I'm considering adding a piece of chalk to it. You really can't play your best pool using only center-ball hits, although that's what I do the majority of the time. It's unfortunate that there are people out there who give pool such a bad reputation. I wish I could say that these people are few and far between, but I'd be kidding myself. You really just need to be proactive against these jerks by arming yourself with the proper tools and not letting them get under your skin. He was probably just trying to get you mad so you would play him. Happy Holidays. M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

Deegary, Im not saying what he guy did was right but that could probably be his own personal chalk, you done the right thing by asking him if u can use the chalk on his table.Avoid any confrontation and just walk away if he says ( No ). If this is too happen again in the near future , simply go to the bartender and ask him or her for a block of chalk. They usually keep a box of chalk behind the bar.

bestbet77 and straight_ are on the right track. The bartender or the bouncer usually control the chalk, which really doesn't cost that much. If they continue to fail to provide chalk, lack of play on the tables should motivate them, as the bar makes no profit when the tables are idle.
I've run into this problem in the past, so I always carry my own chalk. When someone smarts off about it I'll point to the two pieces of pathetic, worn-out chalk on the tables. If someone is genuinely curious about me bringing my own chalk, I explain that I've been in too many dives where there was no chalk to be found.
Pool is like anything else in life - there are plenty of jacka$$e$, but you'll also meet some of the nicest people. I can't count the number of times I've loaned out my spare cue stick, chalk, tip scuffer, talcum powder, etc. Anything you can do to promote the game being played the right way is helpful to everyone.
Good luck and hang in there!

That's why I always carry a cube of masters chalk in my cue case. Is it possible that the chalk belonged to the man who was using it? That is still no excuse for him not to share it anyway. I think I probably would of went to management and asked them for some chalk. Go out and buy yourself a box of masters chalk , it only cost 3 or 4 dollars , and then you can carry 1 with you and never have that problem again. gl 2 ya.

Ask the bartender for another chalk. It's not to smooth out the tip (first time I heard that, naturally from a woman), it's so the tip doesn't slip off when hitting the cue ball.

You should have gone to the bartender and had him or her handle the situation.

Share with them, and make them feel bad about how they don't.
