I think a lot of them do get found. Where I live there is a very prosperous business in carving things from found deer antlers.

Because once they fall off the deer eat them to reuse the nutrients in the antlers.

Contrary to what you just asked, every year I saddle up and ride the meadow's tree line and hunt for sheds. Since they're still green, they are very heavy and since antlers are bought by the pound, it brings in a pretty good dollar. Down here in North East Arizona, horns go for about $11.00 to $20.00 a pound and when you haul in 60 pounds of horns, well....It makes a great day of horse back ridding. Also, Lumber jacking for 11 years, I couldn't tell you how many horns and heads I've found in the back woods. good luck to you and Merry Christmas.

same reason we don't find sasquatch bones. deer don't exist. you can't find the antlers of something that doesn't exist. bodeen-- how can an herbivore eat BONE?? by the way, before laws were created to protect the (east) indian stag, folks would set bush fires, and once all the grass and shrubs were burnt, the stag antlers would shine like beacons.

Someone could have grabbed them up already. Other animals could have chewed them up. They could have been plowed under. The vastness of the outdoors does make it more difficult.
To Wilson. Horns are hollow, antlers aren't. Deer have antlers.

If you go out soon after they start shedding their antlers, you will find more, but the longer they lay, the more chance they will be eaten, or someone else will pick them up. I found a pretty fresh one, yesterday, while I was out quail hunting, but only found one side.

I've only found a small set of two point antlers. I understand rodents gnaw them to nothing. The two pointer I found I turned into a nice letter opener.

Rhino man is wrong. Deers shed their antlers every year. Many are gathered up by companies who sell them.

Here in Illinois alot of people "shed hunt" That is we search for them usually starting in February or March. As said before alot of small creatures will eat on them because they are mostly calcium. Sometimes the best place to find them without damage are in farm fields. The small animals do not venture out in the open as much for fear of being attacked from Hawks. Owls, etc. If you don't look for them early in the year your odds go down on finding them as time goes on!

Some animals, especially rodents, eat antlers they find on the ground. In nature, nothing is really wasted, it is converted from one form to another in the great wed of life God designed for us.
Merry Christmas y'all
