You need to get a different color of highlights. The highlights are too yellow. Try going with more of an ash blonde highlight. You can get a toner to reduce some of the brassiness.

I once messed up my brown hair yes I know it sucks!! but the funny thing was It was the best hair highlights I ever had I will never be able to do it again. Anyway I tried to put light highlights in and they turned orange so I went and got a medium brown color and went back over my hair which toned down the highlights and it looked good. If you want light highlights and your hair is dark go to a salon they have to bleach it first. Go to sally's beauty if you have one they are very helpfull.

To tone down the brassiness you have now, use a tea rinse. Make a saucepan full of very strong chamomile tea and let it cool. Pour it into a pitcher. Place a bowl in the sink under your head. Rinse your hair with the tea, catching it in the bowl. Return the tea from the bowl to the pitcher and repeat about 15 times. Rinse one more time with plain water.

The problem you are having is that your hair isn't prelighten to a light enough state. being that it's already done, the only thing you can do is have it toned down. A good colorist can do this for you. Also, if your hair can take it, that is if it's in good condition you might be able to get a couple of real light pieces to balance out the the total look.

Don't use blonde.
Go to a beauty supply store and ask for something to take the yellow out.
