There are 100's of p2p programs out there, You will find problems with each one. Most of them, will allow virus's to get on your computer. So you are on your own.

Bitorrent is the main one out right now. DON'T use kazza there is built in spyware associated with that p2p program. There are other alternatives to limewire such as soulseek or utorrent.

There isn't one, with P2P you leave yourself open to hackers, crackers, worms, trojans, viruses, it's like owning a bank and leaving the vault open.

The best one, in my opinion, is utorrent for torrent files, which are efficient for large iso files and such, but for small files like music, you should get morpheus, but be VERY careful with it, half the stuff on there has viruses and spyware. Much harder to get viruses and spyware from torrents becasue you can see user comment on torrent sites.

don't use the direct programs like kazaa, limewire, bearshare, morpheus, etc. use an indirect one like bit torrents, I recommend BitComet because it's fast, also the indirect ones are controlled by the public, so if there's ones with viruses, people just avoid it until it's dead, or if the tracker site finds out and deletes it.
