this is normal for males to lose there hair. my dad is only in his 30's and losing it so i consitter your freind very lucky the normal age to start losing hair for males is anywhere from you 30's to your 60's and late 70's so he is just fine he can get his hair back by a surgery called hair trasplant surgery. what the doctors do is take hair from very thick parts of you head and uproot in the placing it back down where the bald spot is. this would be better if there is a small area of baldness. for a large area of baldness he might want to try some lazers or creams( i have been told these work very well) here is a website for one of these options:

this should help you explain your friends hair loss. see this is how it should be most males will lose hair very quickly so hop on some of these products

There probably isn't much he can do, it is hereditary on his maternal side. He can try a product called Nioxin but male baldness is just something he'll have to accept as being himself. Some women find it quite attractive.

Fortunately for me, I don't have that problem, but A dermatologist friend of mine told me Rogaine (by prescription) works, but you need to use it continuously. I can't verify it works. However, another friend told me about scalpmed. They have a website scalpmed.com. It's expensive, but she swears it works. I dunno. Once hair follicles are dead, there's not much you can do, but I think I'd try the scalpmed.
