ever since I was about 13 years old, I have been questioning the whole point of religion. (I'm 19) I never went to any kind of church because my parents both went to Christian schools and hated it, so they didn't want me to get caught up in religion. In your opinion, what is the importance of religion? Should I find a specific religion?

Most people like having something to believe in to fill the gap that science will never fill. A ruler cannot measure itself. For example, science cannot tell us what (if anything) happens after we die.

Only you can decide what to believe in, but if you are curious I suggest reading up on various faiths online to see which ones fit with your values. Having a spiritual center can be a very good thing, and a source of support when times in your life are difficult.

However, I caution against following any religion that looks down upon anyone else for any reason. When religious people start judging one another they are planting seeds of faith-based wars.

Hello =)

You have to search within yourself, deeply.....

I spent age 12-38 as an extreme atheist...... a whole lifetime, to some.

If you completely believe in the explanations of science about how you are where you are, and where you are going. Then religion will do you no great service.

If you believe that there is more to the universe than meets the eye, and that there is some amount of magic and wonder in it, then you must seek out a religion that suits you.

If you find the idea of a "creator-god" appealing, then you will be looking at something within the Judeo-Christian-Muslim-Hindu religions. If you do not, you may wish to consider Buddhism.

If you believe in a god, remember that the purpose of man may be to serve god, but the purpose of religion is to serve man.

Namaste, and happy holidays,

--Tom

Religion is the least important thing in the world. I started questioning the church a few years ago and eventually just completely broke away from it. If you're going to find a specific religion, I'd go with Buddhism, that's what I'm looking into now.

Of course, don't go with a religion that doesn't suit you, make sure you fit in and are comfortable with it. Otherwise, try another one :)

I had a lot of questions at your age and searched for a while and came upon Jehovah's Witnesses who showed me from my own copy of the bible the truth about life, death, future, etc. I also looked at their conduct, good morals. Those things were important to me. The answers came from a 14 year old who told me scriptures to look for in my bible. How many kids that age you know that knows the bible? One thing that stuck with me always is the bible says you have to be discerning. Jesus said you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. John 17:3 said that everlasting life comes from taking knowledge of God and of his son Jesus Christ. Key word: everlasting life.

you should try them all out, and see which one you like the best. it makes a person have meaning to their life.

i think that you should stay away from any sect of christianity that tells you what god thinks, or is against gays, follows the vatican, or doesn't do charity, (while still asking for donations). those are all components of bad churches, in my opinion.

I think its all up to you.
I believe that almost every religion believes in heaven and hell, and in god too.
In religion you can find your path to life.

You can't find a specfic religion, faith in it will have to find you. There is nothing wrong with having faith in yourself though.

Go ahead and try a religion. If it suits you, then keep it. If it doesn't, reject it.
