From Chicago, you will have a stop in either LAX or SFO. Those flights are about four hours. Add another 14 hours for LAX and about 15 more for SFO. Roughly 28 or 29 hours, not counting stop over times.

There are also flights from ORD - SYD through NRT (Tokyo). No matter what route you fly, from Chicago its 26-30 hours...just going from A to B...that doesn't include how long you had been up before leaving for the airport or getting to your home or hotel after arrival.

theres no direct flight from chicago to sydney or melbourne, all flights go through lax or sfo. flights are shorter for sydney (shortes being 20hrs) and to Melbourne are averaging at 24-25hrs. hope this helps.
