Between arrest and trial, where is the evidence housed? With the police, or the DA that is prosecuting the case?

It depends on local practices and types of evidence. Sometimes labs keep physical evidence when there's analysis. Some evidence will stay with the police. DA's don't usually keep evidence though. At trial, they'll have to establish the chain of custody so they'll tell you where the evidence was at all times after seizure. If you want to know in general, you could contact the local DA or check old court cases and look at testimony because they'll testify where evidence was kept. Happy holidays!

It's normally locked up in the evidence lockers at the police station.

The evidence is housed in the police property room. It is not housed in police officers personal lockers. They have to submit that stuff, tag it and check it in.

They are kept in police custody and if if needed they can be checed out (with proper identification and reson) to either be tested or shared with other law enforcement agencies for information on other possible cases or for review.
