LOl Galileo made some of the greatest scientific discoveries of his time with minimal resources. I guess they were just scared of a new idea/explanation cuz they are used to what they believe. Peace and Happy Holidays!

Galileo was not tried for claiming that the sun resolved around the earth. Rather, when show a scripture in the poetry book of Ecclesiastes which stated that "the earth was established" (which they took to mean did not move), Galileo retorted by saying that the scriptures were not accurate or reliable. It was for that act he was tried and forced to stop publication of the book which spoke against the scriptures.

Galileo was not threated with death, but was rather arrested, imprisoned, and then allowed to return to his home while until the controversy was settled. During this time he WAS permitted to continue to theorize that the earth resolved around the sun.

In fact, he was invited to the Vatican were he presented the theory to the Pope himself.

Like most of the debates that happen between science and religion, it is not that Christianity rejects science. Rather it is that whenever a new "discovery" is made in science, someone will try to twist to prove the Bible is false, just like Galileo did. Interesting how many of those scientific theories have come and gone, and the Bible still remains.

You're a little bit late for my age. But go ahead, many youngsters still doesn't know. During the time of the inquisitions, people are killed for telling the "real truth" that was against the "truth" created by the church". The were called heretics or evil worshippers.

Same kind of thing happened to Coprunacius(sp). The church, the very controlling church at that time: The Catholics, was not going to put up with anyone or thing that taught something other than what they said was "truth". In the end, I hope not to offend you, that church and others today promote the most war and death more than any other group in power.

What's your point scientist invented the atomic bomb and it killed lots of people. They also invented penicillin. Religion helped spur pacifism. All inventions of man seem to be a two edged sword.
