I'm not a Texan, but if I were I would not like this idea at all. The part I did like of the article is the following, from the bottom, especially about the automatic citizenship of children born to illegal immigrants - I really hope this goes through as I think it would go a very long way to taking away some incentive to illegal immigration.
"Several anti-immigration bills have been introduced by Republicans in the state House of Representatives. One of those proposals would challenge the automatic citizenship of children born to illegal immigrants by denying them access to some public benefits. Another proposal would exclude illegal immigrants from receiving in-state tuition rates at public colleges and universities. It also would tax money sent to Mexico, Central and South America."

I agree that immigration reform is needed. An antiquated and politicized immigration code that was supposed to benefit legal immigration is so complex and costly that it encourages illegal immigration. Its not the Dems that are blocking immigration reform though, the pro business republicans have an interest in keeping a cheap labor force available to their fat cat lobbies. George Bush even suggested amnesty for people who entered the country illegally. It is possible to secure our borders. We are just unwilling to spend the resources that it would take to do it. The real matter is economic. There is actually a labor shortage in the states right now for people to work in agriculture, construction and general labor positions. Its this labor shortage that creates a market for illegal immigration. If there was not work for these immigrants they wouldn't come. I think we should create special visas for laborers to come to the states on a non immigrant basis to work. This would reduce the demand for the cheap labor and allow us to document who is in the country, tax them, and regulate them. Then we need to seriously secure the border. We will never be able to stop the illegal immigration completely but the technology exists for us to seriously decrease it. With walls, motion sensors, beefed up border patrols and a system that actively investigates company's that hire illegal immigrants we can decrease the flow to something manageable. Then we need a genuine interest in increasing the economic conditions of our southern neighbors. If we supported real economic growth (not American corporate exploitation) we would alleviate some of the need for people to immigrate to support their families. If we can win a world war on two fronts across two oceans and send a man to the moon certainly we can secure a border.

The democrats will stop and nothing to continue to be in power, this includes pandering to illegal aliens and there efforts to invade this country. Speaking to the people who voted democrat congradulations you ruined the country by letting these morons into office. Now the republicans needed a slap in the face to get back to there roots but still you let the enemy take office. Amnesty will be the first thing on the list, the country will be doomed.

specific, they could desire to considering that there are regulations. this is no longer racial profiling, this attempting to enforce those regulations. If officers at the instant are not allowed, that needs to alter and pass interior the invoice too. the guy gave the officer a international driving force's license! The officer is going to desire to know then the place is documentation is in case he's unlawful. If he's been here for 10 yrs the place's his united stateslicense? i grew to become into pulled over in Germany, and when I gave them my united statesmotive force's license i grew to become into asked if I had the different documentation for being there criminal. Is that discrimination too? i think of no longer.

If the congress were to pass a bill prohibiting local law enforcement from enforcing immigration laws. who is going to enforce it? The people who are supposed to enforce the immigration laws?
I think its time to vote these clowns out of office.

Not in Texas, but it wouldn't work anyway. For everyone you send back fifteen more come. Deportation is costly and stupid. As long as immigration reform remains on the back burner, we are going to continue to deport people only to have them re-enter a month later.
I am sorry, but on this issue nothing will work except immigration reform. You can secure the borders with walls, they will build more tunnels, they will find a way through. You can deport them, they will return, you can jail them which goes against the whole debate (they cost money--cant spend money on them in jail if that's a point of argument) etc.
People call it an invasion, and seeing how many are here I guess in a way it is, but then we "reap what we sow" we shouldn't invade other countries (Iraq etc.) Whats good for the goose....What goes around.....

Thanks for the link...even though it's the same old crap. I just find it interesting that so many people find it hard to understand.....crossing the border illegally is ILLEGAL! What part of that is so hard to understand? L.E. sure finds it easy to give YOU a ticket...why can't they do the same for people who are breaking the law that don't belong here?? Living in a border state with Mexico...I have MANY concerns. Just wish the law makers and government did.
