This girl told me she had to be on her own. I resigned myself to her request only to have her text me about 100 times the following weekend. She has been delivering mixed signals since then, really hot then really cold. She still contends she isn't ready for any relationship w/ anyone but I swear she is just not ready to be happy with herself and she gets upset b/c I am happy b/c she is who she is and she doesn't want to accept that it's possible. Moreover, there is definitely at least a part of her (who I think she is trying to spite) that wants me to keep after her. Regardless, why do people fight with themselves refusing to let themselves be happy? Is there anything more ridiculous?

Believe it or not, some people feel good about themselves when they're sad, they intentionally try to avoid the things that make them happy, for example, they imagine sad events in their heads and they actually cry about it, I've been there, but I saw a therapist for 6 months and it was gone! Maybe you should suggest that to her! But be careful she's gonna be very sensitive about it.
What you should do, if you care about that person, is stick around and let her know how much you care, take her out and say: today, we're gonna try something different, and you're gonna be so happy.. and take her some place fun and different, see how easily she can forget.

Some people aren't happy and they don't wanna see others happy either...it's called selfishness. She can't be with you yet she still wants you after her. My advice is ignore her, you do not need someone like that in your life, she is not letting you move forward and it's not fair to you. Let her deal with her own internal conflicts and move on to something better. After all, you are willing to be happy and you know what it takes to get it. Good luck!

I think you have to be happy with who you are before you can be happy with someone else. Sounds like she is not there yet. I'm sorry she is jerking your heart around while going through the process. : (
Sounds like you have it all in perspective. You can't fix someone, as much a you would like to, it just doesn't work that way. : (
Good luck and I hope you find someone that shares your "emotional maturity". I'm thinking for me to meet my match,(in that respect), they will have to be 70???...lol..Let's hope not!!!
Merry Christmas!
