I have had this problem before. Try using orange scented spray or orange peels. I'm not sure why but cats do not like thesmellof oranges. It will keep them away from that area. Also, in case their picky cats, make sure their cat litter is constantly clean. I would reccomend getting a litter maid. It's an automatic litter box that scoops for you. You can get it at Wal-mart. That's just in case the oranges don't work.

Make sure their litterbox is always extremely clean. Cats are very fussy about where they go. Some people say you should have 2 litterboxes, 1 for pee and 1 for poop.

You can try orange peels, cats naturally hate the smell of orange peels.
GOOD LUCK! =D
