Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Granted I was pregnant and wanted to do something for my daughter but it still seemed impossible. The first thing I would suggest is to find your triggers where you want to smoke the most. Mine where driving and on the phone. I constantly had a cigarette in my hand during these times. Once you find your triggers find an alternative thing to do during this time instead of smoking. When I was on the phone I would doodle or pace the floor....or play with a pencil.....when I was driving I would eat sunflower seeds. I found that sunflower seeds worked the best because it kept my mouth busy without ingesting too many calories. Just keep telling yourself that you can do it. I truly believe that if you can quit within the first few days the rest is mind over matter. Tell yourself that you will be healthier, you will feel better, and you won't always be coughing up a lung. I feel like a new woman now that I quit. Don't get me wrong, I still think about it. Almost everyday. But everyday that I don't have a cigarette is one more day that I am going to be here for my daughter.

I wish you all the luck in the world. If you fail try again and I know one day you will be able to do it :)

Physical helps (patches, gum, pills, etc) are designed to help those who are not strong enough to help themselves quit.

If you really WANT to quit - I mean REALLY REALLY want it - just quit.

I did. June 22, 1996 after 25 years of smoking 2 packs a day.
