Put a shirt on her just 4 eating. That way she won't mess up her nice clothes.

Does she have a choice of which bib she want's to wear? If often helps if she can pick the one she wants to wear. Is the bib uncomfortable for her?..Perhaps that is why she doesnt want to wear it.?..Also, honestly, so what if her shirt gets stained?..it is not like she can wear them for more than a year anyways!..She is a baby..not an adult who is expected to look prim and proper all the time lol.
relax..the challenge should not be that she is getting her clothes dirty..(who cares really??)..but that she is learning to eat and improving her fine motor grasp with each bite she takes.
Or if this is a real problem with you..and it really bothers you she is getting dirty, then use an old tshirt she can wear for eating..
children are messy...aults need to chill abit about being "neat and clean" all the time!

At 18 months she is finding that she can do things for herself; like remove bibs and probably diapers.
I personally don't like things around my neck so I was never too stringent with the rules. If it's warm enough, let her eat without clothes and then pop her immediately in the bath.
If you can't do that, put her in inexpensive tee-shirts and just know that you'll always have a some stained clothes. (You will any way)

over head bibs. tel her she has to wear one if she throws a tantrum, let her.

i look after 8 one year olds in work and they all MUST wear bibs, u couldnt have 8 of them runnin round with no bibs on it would be madness. she needs to learn that she has to wear one and that YOU are the parent i will not take no for a answer

unless the problem is about having something around her throat, or maybe she doesnt like the feel of the bibs in which case u might need to buy new ones

My daughter at that age used to smear food in her hair and throw her dishes away. I learned to watch her carefully and she was not allowed to have long hair for many years.

Perhaps your daughter hates the velcro feel. Keep one easy to get on stained shirt handy and use that instead of a bib. See if it works.

Can you say "power struggle"? Who's in charge here anyway, you or an 18 month old baby? If she doesn't keep the bib on, she doesn't get to eat. This takes will power, after all, you should have started that a long time ago; no eating unless in the highchair with a bib on. Kids need boundaries and routines and that is hard for parents to do because it's easier to just give them their way. Kids are very good manipulators. Don't give in!

No spaghetti unless you wear a bib--that's what I tell my son. As for non-messay finger foods, fine with me not to wear a bib. He loves spaghetti and mac-n-cheese though, so he'll put the bib on for those. Best advice: pick your battles. Dirty clothes happen--you'll be doing laundry no matter what, right?

I just put a slightly larger shirt on my 2 y/o. Works like a bib and keeps her clean.

You could always try putting a small pin on the back. that way you can hold the bib closed and not have to worry about her getting poked by the pin.
good luck

My girlfriend has this same problem, I think it's a girl thing. Try an old shirt backwards and that will save the clothing and she will have more trouble getting it off as you can button it up the back and her arms are through it.
Good luck.
