Yes, it is the same song that was made world famous by Hendrix. A singer from California named Bobby Roberts wrote the song some time around the late fifties - although I've heard it said that he adapted it from a traditional folk song, but there's no evidence for this as far as I know.

My preferred version is by Pittsburgh group The Swamp Rats (the flip side of their version of Louie Louie).

What's the country of origin of this 78?

If it was a UK pressing most Cash 78s aren't worth a lot of money - maybe £25 or so in absolutely perfect condition.

Later on, 1958-1960, they are worth more, up to £60 or £70 as there are fewer of them, 45s being more common by then.

You have to remember that Hey Joe was not first recorded by Hendrix. Its widely associated with Hendrix but the sixties band Love (Who Hendrix was friends with) recorded it before him.

The version you have would be that of Hey Joe. The songwriter gave it out to a lot of people.

The Leaves were the band to first record it and place in the charts in 1966 and these were also a band who toured the L.A. scene with Love.

Cash made 2 versions, one of which was in 1960 and the other in 1968.

hey joe more commonly known in its original title hey joe where you goin, is a blues standard covered by everyone from 1932 to 1970. jimi hendrix recorded the definitive version with the experience. johnny cash probably did his version of the song his way. but lest we forget he took nine inch nails and made it into one of the most beautiful and moving songs ever written in the rock/country era. johnny cash rip.

Does it go "Hey Joe, Where you going with that gun in your hand" ?? Cause if that is a line in the song, then YES, it's a Jimi Hendrix song! Good Song.

Merry Christmas

No way.

As Jimi didn't start recording until the 60s and Cash was doing it at least 10 year earlier and Cash's version is not the version you know
