i have never understood that. i tell my kids every word they speak they must know how to spell.. English is my second language and once i came to this country and started to learn the language and saw how others destroyed it i promised myself that if i cant spell it i would not pronounce it.... i am still learning ..i have 2 boys.. we are learning together all the time..to me is such a turn off if a guy i date does not know how to differentiate between their and there or your or you're. very sad... even college educated people make horrible spelling errors... punctuation is a little difficult for most i think in any language..but spelling errors!!! pathetic.!!!

Forgive me if this sounds offensive, but I find it amusing that you have asked why people have problems with grammar and then made a grammar mistake yourself (the word 'much' should be replaced with the word 'many'). Was the mistake deliberate?
I agree with your view that there is no excuse for poor grammar, but unfortunately, it happens! Not just in English but also in other languages! Reasons for this include:
1. People write the way they talk, and as you know what is acceptable to say, is not always acceptable to write. Some people just cannot switch between written grammar and spoken grammar, either because they have not been taught to do so, or because they have become too comfortable with using e-mails, text message language and instant messaging programs and computer spell checkers where 'anything goes' and if you 'get it wrong, the computer changes it for you'!
2. People cannot be bothered to change their use of grammar. They know that they may have made mistakes, but they do not care! Why bother, when they can just use a spell checker?
3. People do not know what correct grammar is, because modern English courses tend to focus on developing knowledge of literature and the ability to express one's self, rather than developing one's 'technical' knowledge of the language. From my personal and professional experience as a teacher, I believe that my A-level German teacher was right when she said that as German language students, we had a better knowledge of the English language than some English teachers, because in order to understand German grammar, we had to understand our own first! E.g. I had no idea what cases were and the difference between them until I studied A-level German.
4. Many people speak English as a second language, rather than a first language. I generally believe that people from other countries who learn English to a high level there and then move over here have a higher standard of English than people who were born in the UK (because when you study a foreign language, you learn the 'pure' or 'correct' or 'formal' form of it, rather than the version which you develop by interacting with the people around you, when you first learn how to talk). However, the way they speak changes in response to the area they live in, because people speak differently in different parts of the UK and unless one has elocution lessons, one tends to speak in the same way as the people in the area in which you live. One therefore picks up local expressions (dialect) which are not necessarily correct grammar. E.g. In my area, many people say 'I done' instead of I 'did', or 'I come' instead of 'I came', or 'I see' instead of 'I saw' when using the past tense.
5. Views on correct grammar change over time, because languages are constantly changing and developing. If you read books which have been written ten, twenty or thirty years ago (if you buy books from charity shops, as I do), you will probably find that the use of grammar and punctuation was completely different to the way it is used now. E.g. I have noticed that the use of the comma has changed. Even the queen and the BBC who used to be the personification of the 'correct' or 'proper' or 'standard' English have changed the way they use grammar.
I hope that this answers your question!

Because of the emails and sms, attention is no longer paid to grammar.Hence, when there is a need for the use of proper spellings or grammar, say in tests etc. ,people are unable to use the right spellings let alone get the commas and colons right.

The examples you provided are all common errors in the English language. By the way, your question should read "Why do people have so MANY problems with grammar?"

Because of the short hand culture primarily caused by texting and IM's . Also some people who are not native English speakers, do translate from their language to English, hence the grammar mistakes.

People type fast and tend not to think about these things to much in an effort to get their thoughts out.
Also "Why do people have so much problems with grammar?" Do you know how many things are gramatically wrong that sentance. If you are going to cast stones about grammar please use it correctly. It should be...
How come people have so many problems with grammar?
Not only is much and problems a wrong pairing but so is do and people technically.

You should say 'why do people have so much OF a problem with grammar' or 'why do people have SO MANY problems with grammar! Your question is gramatically incorrect!
By the way, what gets me mad is when people say they could OF done something, when they should be saying they could HAVE done something. Don't get me started on bad grammar !!! It's one of my key annoyances, together with bad spelling!

a bit like much instead of many as in your question? Its all down to edumacation....any country that has the three 'r's as their teaching manual...Reading, Writing and Arithmetic (R, W, and A), then when you go to spell check it gives you different variants.
