Talk with the local lumber companie's employees. They generally know who is cutting corners and who isn't. They will also generally hear feedback from customers about the local contractors. The other place to look might be in the yellow pages or with plumbers in your area. The plumbers work with a number of the contractors to finish the plumbing on their projects. Have a great CHristmas!

The first thing I would to would be to ask some friends or family about any contractors they had in the past. Ask them about how the contractors handled the project and if their prices were fair.

If you have a few names picked out from word of mouth, check out the phone book. Find a couple contractors you like, and have them give you an estimate of the job.

When I was looking for a contractor for remodeling work I called my homeowners insurance person, mortgage lender and realtor. Most of the folks at the large chain "do it yourself" stores may know someone, as they do have people that install those type of things that they sell and the consumer is unable to install themselves. Also in your travels when you see people working with that kind of project check them out. It would help if we knew what part of the country you were in? Most city have daily papers that you can advertise for free and it also goes on the Internet. Good luck!

My advice would be to go to your nearest biggish hardware/lumber company --- where home improvement guys go to get their supplies. It is very likely that one of their customers in this field of specialty may have been asked by that customer to let him know if there is anybody asking for somebody to do this kind of work on contract. You might also investigate through your local yellowpages to see who is doing this work in your area. Your local chamber of commerce might also be a good information source.
