...better than hot water? And yet, we like hot coffee and hot chocolate and hot apple cider and none of that cold? Well, hmm..., my sister likes cold coffee. Forget all that, I am just asking about the water. I know, I know, this question is really dumb, but I would like your opinion on this.

Hi!

Hot water tastes really strange ... somehow the heat brings out some minerals or chemicals that are masked by substances like coffee or chocolate. This phenomenon does not appear when the water is cold or at room temperature.

They say, incidentally, that drinking hot water first thing in the morning before either eating or drinking anything else is very purifying for the system. I have never tried it on a long-term basis, so I don't know for sure yet, but I think I will experiment someday.

Cheers!

Could it be because fresh natural water coming from the mountains is cold? Sometimes I like water colder because it tastes better - maybe just because it doesn't taste very good warm.

WHAT??? Oh, thought you meant sprinkling or immersion. Must be a learned behavior. Or maybe it has to do with the taste buds, as in we can determine the taste of liquids better when they are hot. This may be a dumb answer.

I think that is an acquired thing, but cold just seems better on a hot day. Truth is if you drink something warm on a hot day, it cools you faster.

In Europe, people who drink pop seldom chill it or use ice.

I don't know where you're from, but here in New England, most everybody likes hot water (for showering, for swimming, for cooking, for making tea, etc).

What people enjoy is the ingredient - coffee, cocoa, cider. They prefer it warmed. Water - no extra ingredient (hopefully).
