Black tarry looking stools is a sign of digested blood. You can get this from an ulcer, which maybe below the stomach, or, from eating lots of red meat. If you have a history of stomach ulcers, this could be the reason, but again, with an ulcer up that high, you usually have nausea and burning or gastric reflux with it.
If you have not eaten lots of red meat, go see your doctor to make sure all is well. You can also get his from diverticulitis disease, that is why you need to see your doctor.

I think a high iron intake can cause very dark or black stools. But, I agree, check with the doctor to be sure it's not from internal bleeding.

It absolutely sounds like intestional bleeding, N&V are not always associated with this, chronic alcohol abuse can lead to many long term gastrointentional issues, please try to stop drinking or at least cut down until you can see your MD

It is not necessarily the digested blood..it is iron overload in your system..it can be blood but can also be caused by iron pills.
