Based from both experience in the Philippines, people who ride the bus are friendlier because they have opportunities to give away seats to the elders, assist the ladies with their belongings and talk to their seatmates by asking usually directions and time. People who drive cars are more often than not arrogant especially when its traffic or they are in a hurry. They can't help but cut any vehicle next to them, or if one is on a signal to the left or right, the drivers on whichever lane would speed up just to get ahead.

People who ride the bus have more opportunity for communication than someone driving alone in their car, therefor they may appear to be more friendly. I'm sure it's equal and in my opinion most people are just as*holes!
Karma.

I agree with Radioactive Malfunction, however I have not been on the short Bus - if this is a small Bus with only six or eight passengers that might be a friendly trip.

Sometimes; it will depend on the person who is on the bus and if they are in a bad mode or not when I am usually on the bus; I am really friendly and out going.

My personal experience is that people on the bus tend to be friendlier and more polite. Maybe this is because you are in close proximity to them, instead of being separated by two tons of metal and plastic. I have had interesting conversations with people while waiting for a bus or train, and on public transit.

They are more polite, more needy and more desperate. They don't have the same potential to kill you by driving on drugs or drunk, and that alone makes them appear more friendly.
