about 3 years ago i was playing football with my brothers and i jumped with the ball and as i was landing with just my left leg my brother who was on the ground took out my leg(the one i was gonna land with) and i ended up landing on my knee really hard thats probably what caused the problem

My one knee has locked on me since childhood, and sometimes at really horrible moments (once while I was performing on stage). It can be quite painful to get it to straighten again. I had hurt my knee as a child by going down a slide on my knees and landing on them when I reached the bottom, this is the first time this happened to me, and I think what caused this problem in the first place. Have you ever done something similar? I think I was genetically predisposed to this though, as my mother has the same thing happen to her at times as well. I hate to say it, but I'm not sure if it is dislocated or just a muscle issue, but I found that strengthening my leg muscles has helped to greatly reduce the frequency of occurence. Just be careful when you are working those muscles to not bend too deep into the press etc. as you wouldn't want your leg to lock mid squat!!

Disclaimer: Even though my name says doctor, I'm not an MD.

It sounds to me like you might have a torn meniscus or a loose fragment that gets caught when you flex your knee. You could also have a misalignment in the joint due to ligament damage or arthritis. If it is causing significant pain or difficulty, it might be worth your time to see an orthopedic doctor and get x-rays, etc.
