Didn't Jesus say not to worship him. He believed in the Judaic tradition of not worshipping graven images. Why do people keep changing the rules but insist that what was written in the Bible is gospel. I thought Jesus came to clarify things not give peole excuses to make up new rules

This is a generalisation in as much as different denominations worship the cross, bow to it in church etc, have drinking of intoxicating liquor as a ritual, and others do worship Mary as the mother of God. Jesus told us to worship the Father not him. Read your Bible.

Lover of Bible truth and Lady of the garden are making sense but I still cannot get the complete picture. The others who think this is a war and not just a debate should chill out and work out your arguments and be intelligent with your answers because verbal bullying is not becoming of you. Iceprincess needs to look at the myriad answers to this to find the real confusion here. Is it better to be confused and seek the truth or to have blind faith?

Fal'lus's point re: 'Forgive them Lord for they know not what they have done' (at his crucifixion) is very pertinent as it clearly differentiates Jesus and God.

Thanks for the source, Anisha. I'm not opposed to the Trinity but not for any of the reasons so far mentioned.

Common sense hasn't prevailed in Common Sense's answer. Where is the logic or reasoning. No one will be converted by that type of response. Why so defensive, ran out of sensible answers have you?
People are using intellect to understand their existence so limit your aggression to a closed minded group of likeminded people. You cannot bully people into believing what you believe.

I have never figured this all out--and I was raised a Christian. There is no G-d but G-d, and Jesus lived by this Judaic belief.

The Nicene Council-300 years after Jesus-thought up the Trinity.

This tribunal made up the Christian religion to best get the people to convert, and they took many of their pagan ideas, and just put a Christan ''twist'' on them, so the people would convert and not have to change their way of believing and doing.

Mary was not important in the religion till the church was trying to get the people of Ephesus, in Turkey, to give up their goddess, Diana, and they decided if they gave Mary ''holy'' status, they could slowly move Diana out and Mary in. It worked. They got their converts.

The cross--macabre, isn't it? It seems the church would have emphasized his ''resurrection'', not his death.

You are talking about Catholics, who are not really Christians in total. They believe in Three authorities, Tradition, The Cannon and lastly the Bible. Christians only believe in the Bible as their authority.

THe Catholics worship Mary and call her the virgin when she definitely had other children after the virgin birth. The idea of the virgin worship is to try to introduce worshipping the dead in Christianity, an idea used to extort money from the berieved in pre-Martin Luther era.

It says: In the begining was the WORD, the WORD was with God, and the WORD was GOD. and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, there is nothing that was made the was not made by HIm.

Talking about Christ as the word

Although He is GOD, Mary was human and not a virgin by the time she died. We can no longer call her a virgin.

First of all, we don't worship the Cross and the virgin. The Cross is a symbol used to represent Jesus and our faith, so it's special, but we don't worship it anymore than Jews worship the Star of David or muslims worship that Crescent Moon and Star symbol.
The Virgin, on the other hand, is sometimes worshipped or prayed to among Catholics, but there is so much more to Christianity than what Catholics believe, and many protestants are against praying to Mary.
As for Jesus, we worship Him because He is the son of God, He is God, He is the second person in the Trinity. He never said not to worship Him. As a matter of fact, the pharisees kept on accusing Him of blasphemy because they understood very well who He was claiming to be. And Jesus is not a graven image, graven images are statues that people make. It's wrong to worship a statue or picture of Jesus, but the actual Jesus is the Messiah and Son of God, and He is very well worshipable.

they do no longer worship the Virgin Mary. They ask her to intercede for them, it relatively is Scriptural, and has been part of Catholicism for hundreds of years. Catholics have not got faith that the Bible is the only source for Christianity. that's the be responsive to God, yet in addition they use early church writings, and custom that replaced into surpassed down interior the direction of the generations. in case you prefer to get quite technical, many Protestant denominations have various practices that are no longer interior the Bible: altar calls, the "sinner's prayer", no ingesting, no playing, no smoking, no dancing, utilising the Bible on my own, faith on my own (in accordance to the Bible, faith and works are intertwined, and a individual desires the two!)... the record is going on and on. For Catholics, there is basically one God, and basically one Savior, Jesus Christ. even with the undeniable fact that that's completely ideal to invite the Saints and the Virgin Mary to desire for us. i'm no longer Catholic, by utilising the way, however i'm examining it, and pondering changing.

First, lets look at the word "worship" to clarify your question as it regards "The Virgin." The term means to give the honor due. So, yes, we give Mary the honor she is due. Interestingly, latin has more words to use than just the one (worship) so you wouldn't have this problem if you read doctrine in latin, or bothered to look at all (it probably explained in paranthetical statements).

Good luck with that...

Jesus was recognized as God, the Bible shows us and it follows from the scriptures directly into acient tradition:
Ignatius of Antioch

"Ignatius, also called Theophorus, to the Church at Ephesus in Asia . . . predestined from eternity for a glory that is lasting and unchanging, united and chosen through true suffering by the will of the Father in Jesus Christ our God" (Letter to the Ephesians 1 [A.D. 110]).

"For our God, Jesus Christ, was conceived by Mary in accord with God’s plan: of the seed of David, it is true, but also of the Holy Spirit" (ibid., 18:2).

"[T]o the Church beloved and enlightened after the love of Jesus Christ, our God, by the will of him that has willed everything which is" (Letter to the Romans 1 [A.D. 110]).
From Here:
http://www.catholic.com/library/Divinity_of_Christ.asp

Further, He did clarify things, by teaching OT laws in a radically moral way, though not really much new.

So, we do worship God.

The cross is an expression of God's love for man, that He came to be with us and experience life with us (God with us), and lay His life down for ours. He was fully man and fully God.

Thank you.

As a Christian, I do not worship any thing other than the Living God, in three parts, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Yes I worship Jesus - He is part of the Trinity. However, I don't worship a cross, I wear one as a reminder of the sacrifice Jesus did for me and to act as He would have me act. I don't worship the virgin Mary - I think she is a remarkable person and I can't wait to meet her, but she is not God and therefore not worthy of worship.

Christians should not worship Jesus. They should worship only Almighy God. They should not use crosses in worship, for that is idolatry, which God condemns. They should not worship any imperfect human, nor should they pray to her. Prayer should be directed to God alone and since Jesus is the mediator bewteen us and God, then prayers should be given in the name of God's Son only.

I just wish Christian would read The Bible and put to practice what they have read.
This is why Christian do not follow what is written they do not practice what they read. I know Christians that have sex out of wedlock, commit murder, worship idols or images etc. and countless other sins for we all have fallen short of the Lords glory. But, I guess that is why Jesus came to die for all their sins.
