and other prudent public safety things?

Someone told me there was a head scarf ban, but there can't be a public ban? Maybe in school?

What, no answers if I use the word "prudent?"

Maybe the law in France should just be made or perhaps interpreted "outward" sign of divisive group, be it gang or religion. And that for the purposes of unity of the student body.

I'm French,so I can help you about the law in France ;-) ( Excuse me if my english is not good, I've only studied it at school)
Scarf is forbidden in France as other religious or philosophic signs in schools (but it's allowed in university) But it's allowed in the streets or in others places... When your identity must be controlled, you can be asked to remove it, but generally this will be a women who will look at you without it.

The french law forbids any ostentatious display of faith from any religion in its public schools. May it be a Catholic cross , a Jewish yam aka , or a Muslim headscarf etc.... There is no law specially pointing at the headscarf. What happened is the Court decided that the headscarf a sign of religious belief. And of course that ignited a lot of controversy.

I'm Dutch. It's cute to see how things reach the international news.

In Holland we have a new law about driver's license photo's and passports, that state a face has to be visible. That means wearing head scarves, baseball caps, zorro hats, clowns noses, a Buzz Lightyear mask, etc, etc, is not allowed in those pictures.

It's not a religious thing :)
