My mom has a pet chihuahua. She lives with my sister, who recently brought home a stray puppy. The puppy was taken to the vet recently, and put to sleep for having internal bleeding. They figured he had it just about since he was born because "his stomach was almost completely GONE". I don't know what would have caused that.

But now my mother's chihuahua is sick. He's lethargic, although he still eats and drinks, and will get up and go out to use the bathroom. But he's throwing up for two days now. It's Christmas Eve, and the vet isn't open! Furthermore, the chihuahua isn't up-to-date on his shots (I know, bad thing). I'm in Germany, so I can't help.

Does anyone know if these two might be related? And what we can do to help the Chihuahua at least make it through Christmas?

Also, the little puppy that was put to sleep, tested negative for parvo.

Ok lets talk about what we do know. The dog is eattng and drinking...a good sign. there is some vomit..bad sign. Take the dog on a leash and look at the stool for any signs of abnormality. When a god is sick it will become lethargic. but it other wise is dong normal duties eatting drinking, and bathroom. Since the vet is closed i would feed the dog a bland diet like rice. (plain) I fyou can get something like pedilite. Its in the childrens section of a grocery store. Get the un flavored type and that will help hydrate your dog since it is vometing. The the dog rest. dont try to make it more active than it wants. These few sugestions will get your dog through for the next day or so til you can get it to a vet.

good luck

So sad. Don't want to be mean but the lesson learned here is 1) Make sure the animals we are caring for have all of the necessary shots and 2) Take all new animals to the vet before adding them to the existing pets at home 3) Always know where the emergency vet is located at so help can be gotten after hours or during the holidays.

That said, if the dog has been throwing up for two days it is sick and NEEDS to go to the vet right now. Please advise your mother to get her phone directory and look up veterinarians. My phone directory also lists the emergency veterinarians in the same area.

If you haven't done so already and if you are in a position to do this, I might have him seen by a second vet for a second opinion. The arthritis can be addressed with medication and nutritional supplementation. As for whatever is causing him pain while he defecates... I would not be satisfied with a guess that there is a tumor (actually, if this has been going on for over a year, I would suspect that it is NOT a tumor)... there are many things which could be causing this, and it may be treatable (or even wholly fixable), as well. If you have access to a clinic with specialist vets, you could maybe find out what exactly is going on with your dog, and if he can be given a good quality of life.

Do not know if they could be realated but did the eat from the same bowel or drink from the same water.Because in cats when one has lukemia the other cats in the house when drinking or eating from the same bowels can pass lukiema to the other cats. For your mothers dog look up if you could find an emergency animal hospital phone them or contact them over the internet and get the dog to them or ask them what could be done in thr mean time until they open and have the dog fully checked out with a full physical

I agree with little bit sounds an awfull lot like parvo please get the little guy or girl to a animal emergency room . being in germany is no excuse for that dog not having its shots especially in germany where rabies is prevalant because you guys have very big deer over there (I know my dad was in the air force I was born in germany) but I am an american citizen . Please get the dog some help or it might die . good luck to you and god bless you and happy holidays.

unfortunately a dog otr puppy can test negative for parvo and still have it.
I have a saint bernard that TESTED NEGATIVE and guess what, he came down with full blown parvo and spent 13 days in the vets, so just because they test negative does not necessarily mean they do not have it.
Get the other dog to the vet pronto...................... it can very well be parvo.

most vets should have emergency services...it will cost more but if it saves your dog then thats better

poor puppy... next time your mom will know if she finds a stray she should take it somewhere else (like to a shelter or vet) and NEVER take it home -espeically when her dog isnt vaccinated...

they might be related.. it depends what caused the internal bleeding

it depends on weather the dogs were attached to one another. If so, it's probably related, and untreatble without a vet. If not, my dog had the same thing. IF y ou have any headache medicine, grind up half a pill, and put it in the dogs food. This helps the bones and stomach of a dog. Nasuea medicine works too, but it has to be in a pill, ground up

Find your nearest emergency veterinary hospital as soon as possible...does your regular vet have a number to refer you to??
I know of a couple places I can go locally for me in case something happens while my regular vet is away...chances are, you have that option as well.
Good luck...and don't delay.
