My dog has just bitten my finger and drawn blood. I know I need a tetanus. Should I just leave it or spend hours at A&E on Christmas Eve with children?

what a load of thickos there are out there! I am not being a baby - It's not the bite I'm bothered about you total braindead prats. My friend became seriously ill from a small animal bite and nearly died and a tetanus can protect against this. This is not uncommon so wise up.

You should get it checked out as soon as possible for your own health and safety. However you must ask yourself the question why did your dog bite you? Is he in the habit of doing this? If so then a serious issue must be raised with regards to the safety of your children. Once a dog turns on a human being he can certainly never be trusted again no matter how much he trusts you.

I was bitten by a dog and didnt need a tetenus, wash the wound, apply some antiseptic cream and cover with a small plaster. If the wound gets red or starts weeping then i suggest you ring the emergency doctors or NHS direct to get their opinion, if the wound or surrounding area starts to swell then i suggest you go to A&E in case there is a bit of the dogs tooth embedded in your skin (thats what happened to mine)
Good Luck

I was told that a tetanus shot can wait for one or two days when I had my last one after a bite. But you want to be sure - call your doctor.

You know that your dog doesn't have rabies and that it is healthy. But every dog has bacteria inside the mouth. You should spend some hours at A&E on Christmas Eve. Maybe you won't need vaccination or take serum.

Just wash and clean it then treat with antiseptic and cover with a plaster if you prefer. Nowadays people are generally up to date with jabs and therefore you shouldn't need a Tetanus. I would give the A & E staff a rest today, they will be busy enough treating those who really need it, and only visit if it gets infected. My dog nipped me in error the other day drawing blood and now it is fine with just the above treatment. Merry Xmas to you and the dog from my dog and me!

Clean it with running water and go get the teanus jab, you need treatment and not getting it could just make your christmas a whole lot worse than a couple of hours in A&E;

Why do you need a Tetanus for a dog bight? It's not a rusty nail. Hopefully your dog had a rabies shot and if not that's what I'd be worried about. Clean it out with some peroxide, apply some neosporin, and you should be fine.
If you have not had a Tetanus shot in the last 10 years I recommend getting one but their is no need to rush to the A&E.

Wash the finger really well with soap and water and watch for infection. Are the dog's rabies shots up to date? If not, you may need to get rabies shots within 10 days.

you shouldnt need to spend too long in accident emergency, as long as triage see you quick enough and there is no damage they could give you a tetanus shot there and then. making sure you havent had one in 5 years prior. but you should get treatment asap. and then get the dog fixed, a dog should never bite its master.
