I'm not sure you could test, prove or quantify psychic abilities.
First off, if we are testing such abilities to determine whether she is "faking" it, then the tests would be a constant struggle to come up with a way to know she hasn't figured out a way to outsmart debunkers.
On the other hand, if she has legitimate powers, then they would not lend themselves to constantly be proven against skepticism.
The real issue is not whether Sylvia Brown actually has psychic powers, but what that is supposed to do for us. Can she produce information which will improve the quality of life for us? If not, then what's the difference between her being truly psychic, and being a fake?

100% fake. And she's not even good at it. She gets fuzzy communications when she can be proven true or false but then, all of a sudden, gets these clear lines of communication when it can't be proven true or false. She was NAILED on Montel recently, because she didn't let the woman finish: http://youtube.com/watch?v=0dU0Q208HKI
Also, she agreed on Larry King to take the fair James Randi test (which would give her $1 million dollars) but she has yet to meet her promise.
She tells people what they want to hear. She's a complete fake. Derren Brown shows how psychics and other paranormal people work -- do a search for him on youtube. It's ALL fake.

I have never received any actual help from Sylvia, but I have Read many of her books, seen her on Montel a few times, and visited her website. While I believe that some psychics are fake, I believe that there are many authentic psychics, and I have no doubt that Sylvia is one of them. I believe that everyone has some degree of psychic ability, and the capacity for developing it to a greater degree. But some have just worked at in more in other lifetimes, and some may have it from other lifetimes, but just choose not to use it as much in this one.

I am a psychic:
how legitimate is her psychic ability? I detect it is. But if you research the subject, all psychics insist that everyone has that ability if they will simply tune into it. (Her son is evidence of that)
Is Sylvia Brown legit? I am sorry, but we will never know. Of course, individual in individual cases will know. But as observers we will never know? Why? Today's world is so commercialized that eye witnesses can be manufactured and bribed at the drop of the hat. Plus, she is now in show business (big time) so she is almost obligated to put on a show that will exaggerate every aspect to the "spectacular".
I am not a skeptic. In fact in my circles I am known as a psychic, but I say like president Regan said, "trust by verify" - the problem you and I have with that is that we don't have the money needed to verify anything other than our person experiences with her.
I have written a few papers on how to tune in to your psychic collection of data and precognition to predict consequences. And visa versa.- e-mail me for a free copy.
PS: Being a psychic is not anti-Christian, or it doesn't have to be.
The Bible is full of the predicting of consequences. When they got good at it they were known as "Prophets"
PPS: Here at the Zoo where I live, I am getting pretty good at predicting when the Zoo keeper will decide to wash the cages.
And, a few times, I have amazed him by telling him what he had for breakfast.

You mentioned that she is constantly telling people things that no one else would have any way of knowing.
Let's stop there and think for a moment: who in the universe would know things about us that other humans could not possibly know? God? Yes. Angels? Yes. The demons? Yes. Satan? Yes.
Now, consider this in the light of Deuteronomy 18:10-11 which plainly states “There should not be found in you anyone . . . who employs divination, a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead.” Verse 12 then states that anyone doing these things is detestable to God. Strong language, that.
Clearly, then, God is not the source of such "gifts" in humans. Neither are the angels the source of such. Of those mentioned above, Who does that leave?

I absolutely believe that there are people who have the ability to tap into parts of their brains closed to most of the population. However, I think she's kind of a crock. I've known people who had uncanny abilities, and it was never a commercial pursuit with them. That is just my opinion, but I don't care for her.

Some are real and some are fake. The fakes make the real ones suspect.
The information that she accesses is out there available to anyone who is willing to make the effort to connect to it. Few bother to try.

i am a medium also and although there are a couple of tv psychic/mediums i do feel work well and ethically
sylvia is not one of them i am afraid
there is something almost cold about her ... and i know no other medium who would be like this when working with spirit
and in all my years working with spirit and knowing many more people who do ( some of whom are highly credited in their field )
spirit do not tell futures , they do not mess with our free will... so i highly doubt this information is coming from spirit if it is genuine at all

As a working medium I can attest to the ability there are talents with both Sylvia and her son. The costs seem to be prohibitive. Those that will believe will understand, those that don't will have their own objections.

Yes, I happened to watch an episode (3-5 yrs ago) where she tells Montel that Nicole Kidman was going to marry an Australian, but the only boo-boo she did, she said it was going to be Russel Crow (Beautiful Mind guy) and to think of it, I think she was 90% accurate, because Nicole Kidman did end up with Keith Urban (also Australian) and Russel Crow ended up with his now Australian wife..I forgot her name...but she was really closed don't you think?.
