I have an extremely anxious dog that works himself into a frenzy when company comes over. We would like to give him something to help him sleep through this. We have tried Gravol but it does not even slow him down. Yes, I have been gradually increasing the dosage, but it still does not seem to work.

Before you poison your dog, get some help from your vet - they can prescribe tranquilizers!

Failing that, you can use Bach's Flower Essences, Rescue Remedy. It's all natural, none of the side affects of tranquilizers (won't poison your dog, either). It takes about 20 minutes to take affect and is enough to calm the dog. Don't know the size of your dog, but for a 70 lb. dog, you need 4 drops. It's available from some drug stores, health stores and holistic vets.

You could be setting your dog up for a heart attack. Take him to the vet and get proper medication. Then the dosage would be right and not harm him. Or go to the pet shop and get a proper sedative. Or even the health food store would be a good choice. They have natural products that will not harm him. Also you could try changing his food brand. The kind you are giving him could have sugar in it and sugar will make him hipper, just like a child.

At my well being facility, we regularly tell vendors they are able to furnish Benedryl for journeys, because of the fact it makes them sleepy yet they're nonetheless u[ and approximately. it won't sedate him, basically take the area off if he's demanding. If he has a historical past of having issues vacationing, you will get a sedative out of your vet and probable save him in a provider interior the seat with you. To make him drained from the benedryl i could supply him approximately 30mg of familiar diphenhydramine. He may even get yet another 10mg if it quite is not adequate. Do a attempt a house first so which you would be able to come to a determination how lots he will want. they are able to get intense doses, extra beneficial than adults, without it being a undertaking. i could call your vert and ask their opinion however, because of the fact i do no longer comprehend your canines's historical past.

You are not qualified to give human drugs to your dog. How do you know the dosage and if it's safe for its body?

It sounds like you are trying to get a quick fix on a dog who needs more TRAINING. This dog doesn't need to be doped up to behave. It needs to learn that people coming over to visit aren't a wildly exitable event. There are many books which can help you.
Stop drugging your dog.

Hi, NEVER NEVER NEVER give a dog ANY human medicine without consulting your vet first. There is some human medicine that dogs can and do take, but there is alot that can be very toxic to them and even bring on death. Call your vet and ask them to be sure. Buy a sedative from their office. Merry Christmas.

How heavy is your dog?

Think about it...if an "adult" dose takes into account that a human adult usually weighs a certain amount, what happens if you have an antsy poodle?

That's right, you just killed it...unless you adjust the dosage.

I wouldn't do this, but if you must...use a fraction of a pill.

NO!!! Human medications are for humans, not for dogs...take the creature to the vet and get some proper care for your pet, for crying in the barn.

No!!! For God's sakes please do not give your pet medication designed for humans. Check with a vet to see what is available and SAFE and made specifically for dogs. You could seriously harm your dog by giving him medication made for humans. You have no idea how it could affect him physiologically.

Do not give it to him! And don't give him Tylenol PM either! Tyenol is as lethal to dogs as antifreeze. Talk to your vet and have them give you something for him.
