We are the product of, among other things, our cultures and environment. We are taught from infancy that such relationships are wrong so we cannot conceive of it ever being acceptable. But at one time, it was.

Biological siblings from father are often relatively less discouraged than ones from mother.
A child is more biologically attached to the mother than to the father.
