Try a Balsamic vinegar marinade. It is outstanding.

This recipe is very good and you can wrap with bacon if you like.
20 scallops
3 garlic cloves , finely chopped
½ tsp chilli flakes
1 tsp oregano , chopped
1 spring of rosemary , leaves removed
1 lemon, juiced
olive oil
sea salt
ground pepper
1 sharp knife
1 chopping board
1 bowl
1 grill pan
1 serving plate
a pair of tongs
Step 2 Mix the scallops and seasoning
In a bowl mix the scallops with the chilli, rosemary, garlic, oregano and some sea salt.
Step 3 Marinate the scallops
Drizzle some olive oil on the scallops and mix again. Leave to marinate for about 30 minutes.
Step 4 Cook the scallops
Heat the grill pan until very hot. Add the scallops a few at a time, and cook for 1 minute. Turn over and cook for another minute until brown.
Step 5 Season to taste
When the scallops are cooked, place them in a clean bowl. Add the lemon juice, a little more sea salt, season with pepper and gently toss together.
Step 6 Serve the scallops
Place five scallops on each plate and garnish with a wedge of lemon and a sprig of rosemary.

I would not marinate them.
dredge in a good BBQ sauce after cooking for a different taste.

No, I don't. They have such a gentle flavor, marinating them would totally change them....Also their texture is fragile, some marinades would break down the tender flesh.....Try some garlic and butter, or mix with a flavorful rice.....

Maybe lemon or lime juice (after they are cooked, otherwise they will be bitter).
Or, try bbq sauce after they are cooked
Or, shrimp coctail sauce after they are cooked.

Less is more with scallops. When they're sizzling in the pan, squirt some lemon juice on them.
