I'm a mechanical engineer.
The first 2 years of college mechanical and civil engineers take the same courses.
It depends on what you like, mechanical engineering has more variety than civil. a civil engineer's job is more difficult and has more responsibility I guess, like studying concrete stress and strain and checking if bridges can hold the cars etc... Mechanical engineers can chose from many fields like you can be involved in car mechanics and design or in HVAC (Heating ventilation and A?C) and plumbing designs, also refrigiration in food processing companies, technical support in manufacturing companies.
I have worked in almost all those fields and it's interesting coz u never get bored if you like to try another job that is totally different from the previous one.

Nisa, enable us to comply with the reality that, hiring should not be a difficulty, as long as you're Engineer, no remember the discipling. i think of what you're able to now do is to be attentive to exactly what you desire to do. From what you're saying i'm afraid you advise Architect no longer even Civil, right here u've a important variations. i'm a mechanical Engineer and that i've got confronted this determination till now, surely Architect became my first determination (for a similar reasonse you have pronounced), yet when I went via some e book I,ve foud that this no longer what i myself desire to do. i propose you to be attentive to greater appropriate to different Engineering discp. and basically after which you will come to a determination what to do. And pls don't be afraid, artwork industry changing every day, and you will never have the skill to foretell the proper destiny tendencies after your commencement. do exactly ur terrific and that i choose u a sturdy success!

I am a civil and had to choose between the two. I am of the opinion that civil engineering is broader than mechanical. Areas of civil include environmental such as landfill design, structural of all types, geotechnical such as slope stability, water/waster water treatment and distrubution, pipelines, hydrology & water planning, route surveying and design such as roads, construction management, materials inspection and testing, economic planning, mining and more.
I chose civil because of the perpetual nature of the need, the geographical diversity of places to work and now have my Professional License and can work for myself if I wish.
I don't know if engineers are held in that high of regard in society, as most people have no clue exactly what we do. But of those who do, engineers are held in high regard.

When you do graduate study, you will see there is no different between Mechanical and Civil and Aerodynamics Engineering they are all the same. Generally we have three main principle concepts
1. Conservation of mass
2. Conservation of energy
3. Conservation of momentum
and one tool that use to solve our problems which the FEM.
That's it :)

hai i'm doing my civil eng.u must be clear with one thing, the job prospectus for civil is growing, that's b'cos of infrastructure growth that everyone expect, both have same risk of environment .in civil u need to learn about stress strain load in mechanics, and about concrets, stones, bricks etc in construction material.if ur coming out with good %,u will be placed in top companies as senior eng. nor if ur interested in designing u can do it to&designing means prefer arch.my dad is a mechanical eng.if i get any info from him i'll try to answer u.but do remember core eng. is always good.the only thing which goes to both is physical work that we put during our study period is more or less same.prefer always that u think which suits u in all aspects
