There are verses in islamic religious texts which suggest tolerance but at the same time there are verses which instruct muslims to kill people of other faiths. It is upto muslims to abide by either of the two scenario. If they abide by the first, they are known as "moderates" and if they abide by the later, they are labelled as "extremists".

Islam, a religion of mercy, does not permit terrorism. In the Qur’an, God has said: God does not forbid you from showing kindness and dealing justly with those who have not fought you about religion and have not driven you out of your homes. _ (Qur’an, 60:8)
The Prophet Muhammad {Whoever has killed a person having a treaty with the Muslims shall not smell the fragrance of Paradise, though its fragrance is found for a span of forty years.} He once listed murder as the second of the major sins,3 and he{ The first cases to be adjudicated between people on the Day of Judgment will be those of bloodshed. } He also said that a man gave a very thirsty dog a drink, so God forgave his sins for this action. The Prophet _ was asked: “Messenger of God, are we rewarded for kindness towards animals?” He said: {There is a reward for kindness to every living animal or human.} Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy, and forgiveness, and the vast majority have nothing to do with the violent events some have associated with Muslims. If an individual Muslim were to commit an act of terrorism, this person would be guilty of violating the laws of Islam.

Why is it that so many people seem to have trouble understanding that it isn't the religion but the people that are the problem? The religion is just an excuse.
Its the same for Christianity. Christianity is just fine in and of itself. The problem is the followers.
Islam is not a violent religion (well, anymore than Christianity). It's the followers that are using their religion as an excuse to hurt other people. They're trying to justify their behavior by saying its their religion.
And, btw, it's not just the Muslims. Terrorism comes from all around the world in many forms. Look at whats happened in northern Ireland between the Catholics and Protestants. There's been centuries of fighting there.
So how about people stop blaiming religion and start blaiming the people like you should be doing?

good question. You would think that if your belief in a higher being what ever the religion is, that that religion's followers would have the belief that killing others is a sin. I feel that it is easier for these people to feel ok with what they are doing if there is a way to place the fualt of the act like terroism on something of a higher being or if be written in some holy text giving them justification. By doing this they remove the stigmatism of any wrong doing. I feel that the only way things may change for the good is that people no matter what thier religion may be must think in a god like way and become bigger than ones own beliefs or themselves and just know that this is a wrong way to convay thier message to the world. Once they can feel they can think in this way then they are thinking in a way of compassion and that in it's self is godlike no matter what the religion. Please write a responce back on this I would like your opinion. Does this make any sence?

In every religion there's always the wrong sort. All religions have these kind. So dont brand a group of people for the actions of a bad few. there's alot of muslims where i live in and they are so much diffrent from the negative stereotyping of the western prejudice, medias and films. They are such nice and warm people and i think their religion is beautiful too. And if in the future you happen to have a difrrent experience from what i had when you meet the first muslim that comes across your path, then i guess you are just unlucky. hold back your judgment and remember the first thing i said to you

The quran is riddled with sexism, hatred and violence; it tells muslims to kill infidels over and over again. The reason why you see you see peaceful muslims is because they are confused about their religion. It is common for them to read the Quran for hours on end without understanding a word of it. The peaceful quotes are from the time when Islam had no power and was dependant on the mercy of non believers. Once mohammad gained enough power he started to visciously move against the Jewish and pagan tribes. This what the quran teaches:
>Quran Sura 47:4: Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks; At length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly (on them): thereafter (is the time for) either generosity or ransom...
>Quran Sura 5:51: O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends....
>Quran Sura 5:33: "Those who make war with Allah and his messenger will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off,....
>Quran Sura 5:38: Cut off the hands of thieves,.....

Islam IS a religion of peace.
The terrorists demand the Q'uran taken literally instead of interpreting the scriptures for themself.
Basicly the religion of Islam is being hijacked in this time by the literalists much the same way the religion of Christianity was hijacked by literalists in the 4th - 6th centuries.

first, i'll start my answer by asking u a question, can we say that for example America is a bad country because i saw some theifes from ther? does it means that all americans are theives?! ofcourse not, but when we want to justify our believs , we can say they are all theives because we want to belive it.. the ISALM is really a religion of peace and tolerance, and it suggest this while living and dealing with people with different religion belives, the verse for that is in our holy Qura'an "sorat al kaferon" you can check it by urself , and i'll tell u it's meaning : "you people not in our religion, you can live in peace with ur belives, am free to worship God through by belives, and u r also free "
if u really care, and want to know more about the true islam , u have to go through the right place and ask the people who can answer u honestly.

Throughout history people have used religions that were supposed to be about peace to hurt people. Think about the conquistadors. What easier excuse for killing a bunch of innocent people than it is 'gods will?'
