YES. Microsoft may give you a free licence key if you give them enough details about where you got the illegal copy, otherwise you have to buy it. NB if it's an illegal copy do all the features work properly? some of the copies were only leaked beta versions. MS will allow critical updates for any copy, but improvements only for genuine copies.

Yes, look online or go to your local computer retailer (Best Buy, J&R, whatever) and purchase a copy. Roughly cost you $150 for Pro. Now, an alternative is to contact Microsoft and tell them you have the MEDIA but would like a license for it. Do NOT mention "illegal," just tell them you already have the media and are wanting to know how much it would cost for just the license.

when the windows xp validation nags come up informing you the copy is illegal there should be a link to click on which takes you to a microsoft site to get a proper key.

Not had to do this but I thnk they give you something which changes the key and makes it valid. Don't know how safe this is though as the software is made by microsoft

thats like trying to trade a fake bag into the coach store with a few more dollars for a real one.

toss the cracked one and get a new one and stop telling on yourself.

yes - I had one. go to microsoft website - if cost me £98 but they sent me a new disc and code. now it is okay
own up - a friend of my sons was fined £1000. whoops
