No, they should open and let the manager count his profits after it's all over!

now why would you want to go to the bar on christmas day? christmas is 4 family friends and children not for getting stinking drunk. bars should be closed on xmas eve until the day after boxing day and should never open on sunday. think of the people that have to work there they never get a holiday because they have to work just to get you all gassed up just to make a profit because they are open. bars should only beopen from 3pm until 11 pm the rest of the year then the staff could have a life and there would be a lot less drunks around. drinking age should be 25 then you would be more responsible and not ask silly quettions.

With any business, it's all about the bottom line.
If a pub would be busy I'm sure the owner would want it to be open.
Each owner knows the community he serves ... so it would be up to him or her if it would stay open or not.
Personally I think Christmas day is a family day and should be spent together either at home or some type of family activity if going out. Bringing kids to a pub, isn't exactly a family activity.
But something like the Christmas show at Radio City is.

All commercial enterprises should cease becuse it is our Christian sacred celebration-the anniversary of the birth of Christ.
Even if you aren't a Christian the business may employ some Christians who really do not want to work-and shouldn't be made to work.
I know that we are a more secular society here in The UK and in my view the more secular our society becomes the further we move away from GOD. And that is The Truth. A lot of people view Christians as slightly barmy but let me ask everyone a question:-Do you like the truth? I ask this because GOD is TRUTH. Jesus said-I am the way, the truth and the light. The only hope for this great but slipping nation is for us to love one another. I'll get off my soapbox now-sinner that I am!

Opening the pub for a couple of hours is quite nice. The regulars appreciate it and the staff generally get good tips and lots of drinks bought for them. I always used to like working behind the bar at Christmas.
Managers discretion, natch. A landlord with a young family would have every reason to take a day off.

Iv worked in my pub for 5 years and I think they should close.
Most people get bank holidays the christmas period off time over easter etc and a pub land lord dosn't even get the day off for christmas despite working from 8.30am to 1pm ish depending on the pub/day 6/7 days a week depending on the pub/staffing levels.
One day a year aint gonna hurt is it? Managers/bar staff have familys too and just cos customers wanna spend christmas day being served beer by seemingly happy staff-away from their family dosn't mean the people serving want to be in the pub till 4pm missing out on time with their family.
I love my job but this upsets me every year!

I think they should close, because it is a public holiday.
Having said that, my family and I are going to a pub tomorrow for Christmas Lunch and the pub is closing at 3pm to normal customers to get round the licencing laws.

On the seafront the bingo was open and so was the game arcade. Petrol station was open too. And that's the ones i know of. So that poor manager is not the only sod working.

I think it should be closed. The bar tenders and everyone else that works there have families that would like to be home with their families. If they were closed then it would also keep dads home with their kids where they should be on Christmas day.
