How long is the proper time period to keep running between your families (spouse's side, and your own side) for the holidays, before you make it your own? Do you keep it up until you have kids? Wait until (I hate to say) they pass away? Or what?

YOU can decide to make it your own at any time !!! You can write the family a letter and let them know your decision. I hate going to my husbands family because they all ask so many questions and I get damn sick of answering them.... ha ha , and here I am on Questions and Answers, LOL !!

We will stop when family or last parent passes away.

Once you enter into a family life (Married) you can make decision on your own. you have to share with your spouse. that is make you very clear even you don't have any kids.

I'm happy just spending Christmas at home. Sometimes I might go visit family, but it depends. You certainly shouldn't feel obligated to go see family for Christmas.
