Here is a view based on the Bible:

The Bible does not say much about the ultimate fate of animals because it is primarily concerned about relations between God and man, but it does give some clues here and there.

All living creatures are made of dust (the elements of the earth) and spirit / breath of life, a life giving force from God. In the first book of the Bible, the story of how God created Man is told: he formed the man out of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath/spirit of life, and man became a living soul (Genesis 2:7). Thus, dust + spirit = soul

At death the soul decomposes into its constituent parts, the spirit, or breath of life, returns to God who gave it, and the body returns to the dust of the earth. (see Ecclesiastes 12:7)
soul - sprit = dust

Animals were made in a similar way to humans, out of dust and the breath of life or spirit. When people die, and when animals die, the same thing happens to both:

"I also thought, As for men, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. Man's fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; man has no advantage over the animal. Everything is meaningless. All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. Who knows if the spirit of man rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?" (Ecclesiastes 3:18-21)

The Bible teaches that in the future, God will create a new heaven and a new earth, it paints a picture of a perfect universe, where there is peace and harmony, no more sin, no more death, nothing evil any more. "Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind" (Isaiah 65:17).

In this perfect world, there will be animals, but they will be restored to a state similar to that when the world was first created, before sin blighted creation. In the beginning, God gave plants to man and animals as food, eating meat was not part of his original plan. So, in the new heavens and the new earth, animals will be restored to their former state of perfection:

"The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD" (Isaiah 65:25, cf. 11:6-9).

In the New Testament it says that most people will go to heaven when Messiah returns and raises the dead at the last day. Just like the animals are changed, so too people will be changed into a state of perfection, and they will live forever in the new heavens and the new earth and the new Jerusalem.

'in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality. When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?" ' (1 Corinthians 15:52-55 se also 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 21:1-4).

Most religions state that animals do not have a soul and therefore do not go to heaven. But if God created man in his image than God created the animal kingdom for humans to enjoy. I believe that animals have a soul because just look into the eye of so many animals and you can see their spirit to live and be companions for humans. Heaven would be a lonely place if your beloved dog or cat wasn’t there to keep you company in the afterlife.

I am a Bible teacher, so I can only tell you what the Bible says. Annimals have a soul but the do not have a spirit. The spirit came into man when God breathed into man the breath of life (eternal life since God is an eternal being) and so humans are eternal beings and exist forever. Animals have no eternal spirit and so when they die they cease to exist. I have a cat that is the nicest pet I have ever had in my life, and I would love to have her in heaven with me, but it just isn't going to happen. We need to believe truth not make up our own.

Interesting enough the latin word "animus" of which the english word animal is derived from means "basic attitude or governing spirit". Humans are animals that have become self-aware and it seems there are other animals that have developed a degree of self-awareness as well. Many spiritual writtings speak of animals being present in dimensions beyond the physical.

Animals too are souls just like you and I. As souls, they are loved by God unconditionally.
Heaven is a state of awareness. It has no geographical location like up in the sky.
When soul leaves the phisical body, whether the body is that of human or animal, it goes to a region in the inner worlds where it merits.

According to many religions, heaven is limited to just humans. IMO, they go the same place we do, wherever that might be. Why should we be more special than animals despite our "higher intelligence"?

I argued that for an hour with a Lutheran pastor one time. Neither of us was convinced of the other's position. My position was that my boxer was a good dog and would be as apt to go to heaven as I am.

I believe animals go to heaven but I am a druid, an animist and have always, even as a Christian, believed animals have souls.
