Some Deacons want to have a family life and not draw a living on donations.

Most do not want to become priests, I would think.

In the Catholic and some Protestant churches, deaconhood is a step in the path to ordination to the priesthood.
However we now have 'Permanent Deacons". These are men who cannot, or do not want to become priests (often because they are already married, or do not feel able to commit themselves to the priestly life.).
They are ordained in a similar ceremony to priests, but act as helpers/assistants to the priests,. they have limited responsibilities. They can preach, conduct communion services (but not Mass), teach aspirants, carry out baptisms, etc. They cannot, eg conduct wedding ceremonies, ordinations nor give absolution at confession, (although they can do spiritual counselling.)

Only in Catholicism, not in Christianity. If you want to follow the Bible, it doesn't work that way.
