Our Laso Apso sp? has four ticks on him with the heads imbeded but he has scratched the bodies off leaving only the heads. He has a Hartz flea and tick collar plus is treated on a monthly basis with the Hartz Control 1 pet care system which all are kept up to date. Any thoughts on how to treat him now and to prevent future ticks?

Given that this is a weekend, I'd try a baking soda paste like we do to remove bee stings.
Hartz is not a good product. The fact that you have ticks says so. I use an otc called Bio Spot. It's a once a month topical. I've used it for over 10 yrs on all my dogs and on all the rescues that I've had. I haven't seen a flea or a tick in all that time.

Get your dog to your vet.

You should be checking your dog on a daily basis for ticks and remove them immediately.

Dont let your pet play outside.
Use tick powder.
Check your dogs ears, paws(particularly between two fingers),collers.
Comb it regularly.

With this i hope your pet is safe

all i can tell you is to get your dog to the vets asap, because it can kill him if they carry lyme disease.
