Yes, the fear of death. It uses immortality as bribery. Religion originated as a means to keep children in line, like we do today with the bogey man and the tooth fairy and Santa, be good and get a reward, be bad and get nothing, or the bogey man will get you. Be good and go to heaven be bad and go to hell.
It was also a means to make up stories when "daddy doesnt come home" because a tiger got him, make the kid feel good by telling him that "hes not really gone, hes gone somewhere better". Unfortunately unlike the tooth fairy people didnt grow out of it, and so they have been falling for the same lies hook line and sinker ever since.
Dangle immortality in front of anyone and what are they going to do? Better believe "just in case".

Fear of dieing, and fear of eternal punishment.
Look at how many times Pascal's wager gets posted here. This is not the thoughts of joyous people. I hear over and over about how I am going to hell. It only shows Christian obsession with an irrational fear.

True Christianity is based on facts & not fear. Fear is tormenting & God has not given us the spirit of fear,to be under bondage again, but of peace,love & a sound mind.

Christianity is based on believing that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. We are saved because we believe and not because we do or feel anything else to earn it.

It's based on fear and delusion, or at least conservative Christianity is. Normal Christians have normal, rational beliefs for the most part whereas evangelical Christians are morally degenerate scum who cling mindlessly to misguided doctrines.

For some, yes. I think the religion has come to be based on that, but that was never Jesus's intent.

Yes: "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom." Once you give the LORD the reverential fear a creature owes to its creator, then you're on your way to developing a right relationship with said creator. You are willing to listen... and obey... you are becoming wiser.... you discover that said creator loves you more than any other person has ever loved you... then where is the fear? The universe is a freindly place and there is much you can contribute to it.
Merry Christmas.

No Love. God's love for us. We are just to ignorant to accept the fact.
John 3:16 (KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Romans 3:23 (KJV) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
1John 1:9 (KJV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

For some people, perhaps, but not for me. The only fear of God is that which man makes by using the Lord's name in vain.
