Try this method, you might like it.
Cook the amount of onion you like (chopped finely)' with a touch of garlic, if you like, (VERY finely chopped) in milk and add pepper and salt according to taste. (A little first and add more if needed). Some say, "Soften the onions and garlic by boiling them for 2 or 3 first in a little water.
When the onions and garlic are soft, add white breadcrumbs until the consistency resembles a fairly thick sauce sauce, but not too thick. When it is done, add a dessert spoon of either butter, or olive oil. Serve it warm.
As you can guess, this is an old home recipe, not from a book.

bread sauce is AMAZING! if possile i would just have that for my sunday roast! MMMMMMMMMM love it! so random but SO brilliant! cannot wait til tomorrow for xmas dinner with luxury bread sauce
