It is okay to use self-rising flour in biscuits, but it will cause the cookies to rise too much. The vanilla extract brings out flavor in the dough. You can use imitation or real or leave it out. It won't taste the same, but they will still be cookies.

You can use self-raising flour. I would kill for self-raising flour. Can't get it in Switzerland. Please, no more questions like this - it just increases my blood-pressure. The amount of baking powder you have to add is really very small and therefore a pain in the neck to measure.

You can use SR flour if you want, but the result will be rubbish.
Vanilla essence adds a vanilla flavour to things, and can be omitted.

no don`t use self raising flour unless you want them to rise, you don`t have to put vanilla essence in if you don`t want to, i make things all the time but never put it in chocolate cookies

self rising flour works. vanilla is just for flavor. if you don't have it, it's ok, cookies will still be good, add more chips.

you'd probably be best with plain flour - unless you want them to rise???
and vanilla essence is for flavouring - try a little brandy instead - just don't give any to the kids!!! tee hee.

You shouldn't because the clue's in the name - self-raising. You don't want biscuits to rise only cakes and scones

you can use self rising but you leave out the salt, baking soda, and cream of tarter in your recipe. It's already in the flour.
